PPT makes record 20.27% growth in cargo handling

The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) handled the highest ever record cargo of 61.84
million tonnes till February 2014 in the current financial year as compared to
51.41 million tonnes of cargo handled during the corresponding period of the
previous year. This is an increase of 20.27% over the traffic handled during
corresponding period of previous year and is also 6.98% higher over the target
fixed for the period, stated a press release issued by the PPT.
PPT has
handled 5.18 million tonnes of cargo during the month of February 2014 while 2.28
million tonnes cargo was exported and 2.90 million tonnes cargo was imported
through the Port during the same period.
Similarly,
a record quantity of 2,54,798 tonnes of Lime Stone was imported during the
month of February’2014 surpassing the previous record of 2,44,609 tonnes during
the month of March 2013. A record quantity of 32,205 tonnes of Coke Breeze was
imported during the month of February 2014 surpassing the previous record of
29,326 tonnes during the month of December 2012. 
During
this period in the current financial year up to February 2014, Thermal Coal
traffic has exhibited a growth of 19.03%. Similarly POL Traffic has increased
by 6.52%, Iron Ore traffic registered a growth of 222.46%, Coking Coal 39.87%
and other cargo traffic grew by 11.15% compared to the same period of previous
year. Paradip Port has retained the second highest position in terms of cargo
handled and also in terms of percentage of growth in traffic amongst all the
major ports till the end of February 2014.
The
average turn round time (Port A/c.) up to the month has improved by 12% over the
corresponding period of previous year and 10.20% over the target fixed for the
year. The average Berth-day output up to the month improved by 9.84% over the
corresponding period of previous year and 8.71% over the target fixed for the
year.
Rail
borne traffic improved by 5.91% during the month and the same is improved by
28.09% up to the month over the corresponding period of the previous year.
