Case against ex DGP: Utkal Bharat calls Naveen ‘enemy’ of Odia race

Bhubaneswar, Sep 26: The Utkal Bharat, a regional political
outfit, here on Friday alleged described Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as an
enemy of the Odia race and said he himself has hatched a conspiracy by lodging
a vigilance case against former Odisha DGP and current Special Secretary (Internal
Security, Ministry of Home Affairs) Prakash Mishra to prevent him from becoming
the CBI Director.

Launching a scathing attack on the Chief Minister Utkal Bharat
president MA Kharabela Swain said, “While there is a bright possibility for an
Odia IPS officer-Prakash Mishra to occupy the CBI Director post shortly, the
role of the State Government particularly of the Chief Minister by lodging a
vigilance case against Mishra at this particular period is condemnable. By doing
so, the Chief Minister proves himself as the enemy of the Odia race.

Addressing a press conference here Swain said, “Praksah
Mishra is perceived to be a police officer of impeccable integrity, courage of
efficiency all over the country. There is no doubt about his sense of
discipline as he has successfully served as NIA and NDRF chief in national
level. It is now clear that the sole aim of the case lodged against Mishra is
to prevent him from becoming the CBI director.”
“The Chief Minister had appointed Mishra as DGP of the state
in 2012. If he was involved in financial irregularities during his stint as CMD
of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC) during 2006-2009, then
how did the Chief Minister appoint him as DGP? The role of Patnaik has raised
many eyebrows,” said Swain.
Swain said that with the CBI dragging many ruling party
people and top Government officials in the chit fund scam in the State, many other
powerful people in the administration had reasons to fear that they would be
next in the firing line if an upright, no nonsense officer like Mishra becomes
the CBI chief.
