Koraput, December 21: The Central University of Orissa (CUO),
Koraput is all set to launch a new master programme in Sanskrit from the next
academic session.
The decision was taken in the meeting of 20th Executive
Council of the University under the chairmanship university vice chancellor Prof
Mohammad Miyan.
“Sanskrit remains the supreme language, but even while other
languages were taking shape, Sanskrit continued to be the vehicle of creative
and all other scholarly work. Sanskrit, which is a part of our cultural
heritage, needed to be given importance in any educational institution. So the
University is launching the programme in next academic session,” said Prof Miyan.
Senior scholars will be invited to develop the curriculum and
structure of the programme in this regard. Initially the programme would begin
with two year M.A. programme and subsequently introduce the research programmes
in Sanskrit.

 Previously the
Academic Council has already approved for the starting of the Hindi department
in the University. Sanskrit, being the language of ancient India is the
repertoire of Indian wisdom, art, philosophy, literature and sciences. To study
Sanskrit was a must for an Indian student in the olden days, if he had to be
considered as a scholar by the society.
