Rourkela-Sambalpur Biju Expressway inaugurated, 163-km-long project costs Rs 1,200 crore

Jharsuguda, March 12, 2018: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on
Monday dedicated the first phase of Biju Expressway from Rourkela to Sambalpur
here.


The 163-km road, a vital stretch of the Expressway, has been
constructed with Rs 1,200 crore. The project
has been executed on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode by L&T Sambalpur
Rourkela Tollway Limited (L&T SRTL).
Dedicating the road to the people, Patnaik said the
money is of the people of our state and is being utilized in development of
infrastructure that will realize the people’s aspirations and transform their lives.
Patnaik said connecting west Odisha to south Odisha through
eight districts, the grand project worth over Rs 3,000 crore is an
accomplishment of Biju Babu’s dream and vision of making Odisha an economic
powerhouse through providing best connectivity, infrastructure and
industrialisation.
The 650-km Expressway from Sundargarh to Koraput will bring
the west and south Odisha to the forefront of Odisha’s development journey. It
will bring all-encompassing socioeconomic transformation by creating vast
opportunities for employment and economic activities, spelling progress and
prosperity for our people.
The Expressway project, being implemented by Works
Department, will be the life line of western Odisha and accelerate the
development. The project aims at connecting four districts of western Odisha
like Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundergarh with four KBK (Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput)
districts- Koraput, Nawrangpur, Kalahandi and Nuapada.
It will also connect many border towns of western and south
Odisha like Chandli, Boriguma, Nawrangpur, Papadahandi, Ambapani, Dharmagarh,
Sinapali, Behella, Nuapada, Paikmal, Padmapur, Sohela, Bargarh, Sambalpur,
Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, and Rourkela.
