Assembly adjourned till 3 pm after din over tomato distress sale

Bhubaneswar, March 23, 2018: A united Opposition forced repeated adjournments
in the Odisha Assembly over distress sale of tomato in the State on Friday.
As the House assembled at 10.30 am to transact the business for
the day, opposition Congress and BJP members holding newspapers and tomatoes first
raised slogans against the Government standing on their seats and alleged that
farmers are suffering a lot as they are selling tomato at a mere Re 1 per kg.
They demanded a discussion on the issue by suspending the
Question Hour.
As Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat didn’t listen to them, they rushed
into the well of the House. Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati even
tried climb atop the Speaker’s podium as a mark of protest.
Unable to run, the Speaker first adjourned the House till
11.30 am.
When the House reassembled at 11.30 am there was no
improvement in the situation forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 3
pm.
