Congress stages walkout from Odisha Assembly during Governor’s address

Bhubaneswar: The main Opposition party, the Congress, on Monday staged a walkout even as Governor Ganeshi Lal was addressing the Assembly on the opening day of the seven-day Budget Session.

As soon as the Governor started his address, the Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra staged the walkout.

In his address, Lal highlighted the State Government’s achievement in sectors like agriculture, health, education, social security, infrastructure development and poverty alleviation and tackling natural calamities and said Odisha’s economy is on the path of steady growth.

“Odisha has set an example on how to tackle natural disasters. The State has been consistently growing at higher rate than the national average. The margin of financial growth has touched heights. Bhubaneswar emerged at the top in Smart city challenge,” said the Governor.

“My government has launched schemes like KALIA for the welfare of farmers and Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) to facilitate treatment of patients. My Government has also provided 65,000 smartphones to farmers,” said Lal.

The last session (Budget Session) of the 15th Odisha Legislative Assembly which began today will have a total of seven business days.

Motion of thanks on Governor’s address will be held on February 5 and 6. On February 8, motion on vote on account and appropriation bill will be passed. The Assembly would continue till February 12.

Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera will present the interim budget on February 7 for three months.
