Basic disaster management training for Red Cross Counsellors ends


Bhubaneswar: The third batch of the Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme for Red Cross Counsellors on ‘Disaster Management and Disaster Survival Skills’ which continued for five-days concluded on Tuesday at the Disaster Preparedness Training Center (DPTC) in Red Cross Bhawan here.

The programme was jointly organised by the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) and Indian Red Cross Society – Odisha State Branch, Bhubaneswar, with an aim to create quality resource persons for school, college and community level training and awareness programes on disaster management.

As many as 30 number of Youth Red Cross (YRC) Counsellors from different colleges of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack districts attended the five-day long training programme.

They were trained in basics of disaster management, college safety, survival skills against various disasters, basic first-aid and search and rescue techniques, fire safety, road safety by experts from OSDMA, IRCS-OSB, Civil Defence, ODRAF, Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy and Odisha Motor Vehicle Department.
