CM launches several projects in Ganjam

Ganjam: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday inaugurated two new berths of Gopalpur Port and laid foundation for major projects like expansion of Harbhangi Irrigation Project, piped water supply projects in two blocks and a bridge over Baghua River in Ganjam district.

As part of his whirlwind tour across the State ahead of the elections scheduled in May, Patnaik visited Seragada, part of his Hinjli Assembly constituency, to dedicate various developmental projects and to interact with the electorate.

With Rs 2,000 crore expansion, Gopalpur Port will have three berths and cargo handling capacity of 20 million metric tonnes per annum.

“It will significantly boost Odisha’s maritime trade potential, create employment opportunities for 8,000 youths and aid socio-economic growth in the region,” said Patnaik.

Harbhangi Irrigation Project is planned to be expanded with Rs 172 crore investment which will irrigate 3,763 hectares of arable land, benefiting farmers in 32 villages of Aska and Seragada blocks of Ganjam. The Harabhangi irrigation project was a long-standing demand of people in the area.
