Bike-borne duo snatches Rs 3 lakh from senior citizen

Khurda: A bike-borne duo snatched a bag containing Rs 3 lakh from a retired Government official near Totapada under the Town police station on Wednesday.

The victim Ramakanta Rath has lodged a complaint with the Town Model Police. He was returning home in Kalupada in his motorcycle after withdrawing the cash from the SBI, Khurda branch for the treatment of his wife when the miscreants coming in a Black Pulsar intercepted him near Totapada.

When the victim stopped the motorcycle, the pillion rider snatched the bag containing the cash and the duo fled.

The victim said that he could not see the men or the registration number of their bike. Police said investigation is on the case and miscreants will be nabbed soon.

Bike-borne miscreants are creating havoc in Khurda Town and adjoining area giving sleepless nights to people for the past few months.

The goons target any person who happens to be going to bank for deposit or returning after withdrawing cash and loot them at knife and gun-point. They come out riding two wheelers and rob people of their cash.

The loots have become increasingly frequent in the locality. In October last year unidentified miscreants looted Rs 15 lakh from a petrol pump staffers at gunpoint near OCC Chhak on National Highway-16 under Khurda Sadar police station. In August 2018, bike borne miscreants too looted Rs 3 lakh from a youth at Bank chhack in Khurda district.

There have been numerous incidents and victims have complained about the loot to the police.
