Mock drill on radiological emergency held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A mega mock exercise on the radiological emergency was conducted at the Esplanade Mall, Rasulgarh Square here on Thursday.

Following an explosion at the entrance of Esplanade, fire and police control room were informed immediately by the mall authorities. Shortly PCR Van/MRDS (Mobile Radiation Detection System) arrived and declared the presence of radiation at the incident site. Accordingly the information passed to State Emergency Operation Control Room (SEOC).

The service of NDRF was requisitioned. In the meantime, teams of Odisha Fire Services, ODRAF, Civil Defence, Red Cross and NGOs reached the site. On reaching the spot, the NDRF demarcated the area into hot and warm zones. Victims on the incident site were removed and sent for higher medical care after first aid. Thereafter, the area was decontaminated and declared safe. The mock exercise was conducted from 9.30 am till 10.20 am.
