Bhubaneswar: Five senior IAS officers were assigned to oversee relief and restoration work in five highly vulnerable districts likely to be affected by very severe cyclonic storm Fani.
While Suresh Mahapatra was given the responsibility of Puri, Pradipta Mohapatra was asked to oversee relief and restoration work in Jagatsinghpur, Pradeep Jena in Kendrapara, Anil Samal in Jajpur and Balwant Singh and Balasore districts.
The top five bureaucrats had served as Collectors in these districts. All of them have been directed to report by 5 pm today.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India approved a proposal of the Odisha Government to lift the provision of model code of conduct (MCC) in 11 districts likely to be affected by very severe cyclonic storm Fani. MCC has been lifted in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack and Jajpur districts.
According to IMD forecast, Fani has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm is likely to hit Odisha coast at Balukhand in Puri district on May 3 afternoon with a wind speed of 175-185 kmph gusting up to 205 kmph.
