Bhubaneswar: The MM Das Commission, probing into the multi thousand-crore chit fund scam in Odisha, submitted its seventh interim report to the State Government on Friday.
Sources said the Commission’s Secretary submitted the 16,957 pages report to the Home Home Department. The report provides all details of the identified small investors so that State Government, the sources added.
The Commission has apprised the Government that so far, 4,97,844 depositors have been identified while at least 1,931 micro small depositors have been refunded money. At least 421 chit fund companies have been identified so far.
Sources said the Commission has recommended refund of small depositors’ money on a priority basis.
The State Government formed the Commission in July 2013 to probe into the chit fund scam in the State.
In February 2015, the State Government appointed retired Justice Madan Mohan Das as the Commission of Inquiry after the death of Justice RK Patra, who was initially probing the mega scam that rocked the State then.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also probing the mega scam following the direction of the Supreme Court.
