Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer and 1986-batch Odisha cadre IPS officer Abhay on Wednesday assumed charge as the Director of Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVNPA), a premier training institute of the country for the Indian Police Service officers.
Abhay has been appointed as the chief of the academy for a combined tenure up to his superannuation on June 30, 2021, a order issued by the Personnel Ministry said.
He was earlier the Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). He also has worked as Director of CBI Academy and Director (Training) of the BPR&D Director and ADG (Training) of CRPF.
Prior to his deputation to the Centre, he was serving as the chief of Odisha Crime Branch and Director of State Intelligence.
He also has served on international deputation to Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation.
During his seven years tenure in CBI, apart from heading Anti Corruption Branch of CBI in Odisha, he was DIG of Bank Frauds and Security Cell in Delhi.
During his tenure as NCB DG from January, 2018 to July, 2019, he headed Indian delegation for agency level talks with Myanmar, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Russia and Indonesia.
He represented India in UN Conference on Narcotic Drugs. He presided over numerous meetings of Narcotics co-ordination within the countries as well.
He has received Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.
