Bhubaneswar: Former Rashtriya Rifle Director General (DG) Lt General KP Dhalasamant passed away at a private hospital in Delhi on Monday after a battle with cancer. He was 70.
The last rites of Dhalasamant will be conducted with full military hounors in Delhi in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Samanta, a veteran of the 1971 war, was a former Director General (DG) of the Rashtriya Rifle and member of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) at Kolkata.
He had command experience in Siachen, Kargil, Operation RAKSHAK (Punjab) and in Operation Parakram. Other than the combat and war experience, his in-service assignments provided challenges and opportunities in the field of human resources management, material, equipment and financial management of more than thousand of cores.
He was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) during his military service, in recognition of his outstanding performance while he was a Major General and Lieutenant General. He held an MSc in Defence Studies from Madras University.
Post-retirement, he was engaged in several social activities and very vocal on various national security issues.
