Bhubaneswar: Maintaining that availability of clean water for drinking and irrigation has been one of the major challenges that has concerned Odisha, over the years, Union Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said that the Narendra Modi Government has been working to overcome challenges of water scarcity and provide piped water to rural and interior households in Odisha.
In a series to tweets, Union Minister Pradhan, who belongs to Odisha, said the Central Government is working with speed, scale and skill to ensure accessibility of clean water and a functional tap connection to every rural household in the country.
“Today, access to safe drinking water has caught the imagination of the people and become part of public discourse. It is PM Narendra Modi’s indomitable will to address the most pressing issue of our times that has transformed the Jal Jeevan Mission into a mass revolution,” tweeted Pradhan.
We have been successful in connecting more than 1 lakh households with piped drinking water on a daily basis. Modi Govt is working with speed, scale and skill to ensure accessibility of clean water and a functional tap connection to every rural household in the country, Pradhan said in another tweet.
According to Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) data from Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, as on November 30, 2019, less than 4% of the 81.25 lakh rural households in Odisha have access to piped water. We are working to provide piped drinking water to all rural HHs, wrote the Union Minister.
Cognisant to the needs of Odisha, PM Narendra Modi has given impetus to strengthening water security in the state. Allocation of Rs 812 crore for Odisha in FY 2020-21 under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’, a significant jump from last year’s Rs 297 crore, is a testimony to that, Pradhan tweeted.
“Execution of piped water projects to provide equitable, affordable and safe drinking water to all will also increase demand for domestic steel, create job opportunities, boost domestic manufacturing, strengthen Make-In-India and contribute to the larger vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat,” tweeted Pradhan.
