Rourkela, March 21: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday inaugurated a 200-bed new super-speciality hospital at the Ispat General Hospital.
The SAIL upgraded the Rourkela Steep Plant (RSP)-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into a super speciality facility.
The super speciality hospital would have cardiology, cardiothoracic & vascular surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, and nephrology departments. It is also adorned with avant-grade medical equipment like MRI 3 Tesla, CT scan 256 slice, 2 Cath Labs (uniplane & biplane), CRRT machine besides having five modular operations theatres laced with sophisticated technology.
In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to upgrade the 700-bed IGH into a super speciality hospital and medical college. However, SAIL started work on converting IGH into Ispat PG Medical Institute and Super Speciality Hospital, facing pressure due to years of delay.
Nearly Rs 300 central funding has been spent for the purpose. Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also spoke on the occasion.
“The unveiling of IPGI-SSH in Rourkela is yet another fulfilment of promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of Odisha. This is an emotional moment, especially for me as an Odia to witness the realisation of this long-standing demand of the people of this region,” said Pradhan.
Earlier today, the President attended the 18th convocation ceremony of NIT-Rourkela.
