PM Modi to visit Odisha, West Bengal to review Cyclone Yass impact tomorrow

Bhubaneawar, May 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha and West Bengal on Friday and conduct an aerial survey of Cyclone Yass affected areas.

Sources said the Prime Minister will conduct an aerial survey in Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak districts, badly affected by the cyclone in Odisha.

“The Prime Minister will chair review meetings in the two states to assess the impact of cyclone Yaas. Prime Minister will also undertake an aerial survey of the areas affected by the cyclone in two States,” said. PMO release.

Government sources said Modi will first hold a review meeting in Bhubaneswar and then proceed for an aerial survey in the affected areas of Balasore, Bhadrak and Purba Medinipur. He will then hold a review meeting in West Bengal.

Today, the PM also reviewed the situation arising out of the cyclone.

“About 106 teams of NDRF were deployed with 46 teams each in West Bengal/ Odisha that rescued more than 1000 persons and removed more than 2500 trees/poles that had fallen & obstructed the roads. The Defence Forces namely Army and Coast Guard also rescued marooned persons, while Navy & Air Force were on the alert,” said another PMO release.

Cyclone Yaas hit the coast north of Dhamra in Odisha’s Bhadrak district and 50 km south of Balasore, close to Bahanaga block, around 9 AM.

The landfall process was over around 1:30 PM. At least three persons were killed due to the cyclone.
