Taliban leader Mullah Hasan Akhund to lead new Afghanistan government

New Delhi, September 7: Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund will be the leader of the new Afghanistan government, the Taliban announced on Tuesday.

Taliban’s chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that Taliban co-founder Abdul Ghani Baradar will be the deputy leader of the new government while Sirajuddin Haqqani, the son of the founder of the Haqqani Network, designated as a terrorist organisation by the US, will be the new interior minister.

The name of Sirajuddin Haqqani, head of the Haqqani Network, has been proposed for the federal interior minister’s post, reports said.

Similarly, Mullah Yaqoob, the son of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar, has been approved as Afghanistan’s defence minister.
