Orissa High Court rejects plea seeking permission for increasing Durga idol height

Odisha

Cuttack, September 17: The Orissa High Court on Friday rejected the petition filed by Cuttack’s Balu Bazar Puja Committee seeking relaxation in restrictions imposed on height of Durga idol by the Odisha Government.

The Court refused to interfere with August 9 guidelines on festivals where the restrictions have been imposed to keep the height of the Durga idols within four feet and conduct in-door like puja in different pandals across the State.

The division bench of Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice BP Routray on Thursday closed the hearing on the petition seeking permission to come up with their idol having traditional height of 5 ft 2” for Durga puja this year, after listening to the arguments of senior advocate Pitambar Acharya, who appeared on behalf of puja committee, and submissions of State counsel DK Mohanty.

Balu Bazar Puja Committee secretary Ramesh Chandra Behera had filed the petition.
