Bhubaneswar, September 24: The affidavit of the Central Government in the Supreme Court for “refusing” caste enumeration of OBCs in 2021 Caste Census is a great betrayal, said, Samajwadi Party Odisha State unit president Rabi Behera in a press statement on Friday.
“Before coming to power BJP and NDA has promised to published Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) and to form and expert committee on the matter. But after coming to power BJP back-tracked,” said Behera.
When the opposition leaders who believe in social justice raised the issue vehemently in the Parliament, the then Home Minister Rajanath Singh promised the Parliament that in 2021 General Census Govt. of India will go for the head count of Other Backward Classes, said Behera.
“But again BJP and NDA betrayed OBCs and went back in their promise of Caste Census in the affidavit the Central has told ‘any direction from the Supreme Court to carry out OBC Caste enumeration at this late stage will cause confusion and tantamount to interfering with the policy decision of the Govt., which as decided not to carry out OBC Caste enumeration in the census 2021 exercise’,” added the SP leader.
He appealed to all the opposition parties and social justice forces to unite against this anit-OBC and social justice stand of the Centre.
