Bhubaneswar observes “Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav”

Bhubaneswar, September 27: Mass observation of “Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav” started here on Monday in different wards under city administration. Going by the SOP for day wise celebration of the event, theme based activities have been undertaken. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) conducted day one citizen connect activities in 38 wards coming under three administrative zones of the corporation.

Activities like small rallies, Door to door campaign, meeting with households, meeting with mahila groups, demonstration of “Kachara Alag karo”, visit of “Swachha Sathis” and Zonal Deputy Commissioners to different households to counsel on segregation of wet and dry waste, demonstration of “Mo Khata”- (waste to organic compost) initiative, Rangoli competition for aesthetic display of waste segregation and meeting with RWAs. All these activities are based on two themes namely,” Kachara Alag Karo Amrit Divas ” and meeting with RWA, Mahola Associations and other residential associations.

Title song of BMC on waste segregation “ Mu safai wala” was played during the rallies and road shows conducted to reiterate segregation at source.

As advised by BMC Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh, citizen connect activities has involved people from all walks to disseminate message of sanitation and making it more and more community driven.

SSEPD Minister Ashok Panda, local NGOs working with the ULB have come up to sensitise on Swachha Odisha Sustha Odisha, power of waste to resource initiative activities like Mo Khata (organic compost), participation of citizens, organisations, residential associations to supplement their best for making Bhubaneswar more clean and green.

Segregation and scientific processing of waste materials for a meaningful utility were displayed in “Rangoli competitions” held in south east Zone and North zone of BMC. Local women and girls took part in the competition have depicted fact behind waste to resource and how segregation promotes sanitation.

Involvement of women SHGs in city sanitation activities, MUKTA(Mukhyamantri Karma Tapara Avyan), empowerment of core sanitation worker and Safaikarmcharis through “Garima” Scheme were discussed in the small group meetings held in different wards. Under South East zone , the wards covered are 32, 33, 42, 43, 44, 45, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61 and 67. Similarly, ward number 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 26 in North zone and ward number 46, 51, 52, 62, 63, 23, 27, 37, 22, 24 in South West zone are covered in today’s event.

Additional Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethi and Deputy Commissioner (Sanitation) Suvendu Kumar Sahoo paid visit to different zones to observe the activities. Zonal Deputy Commissioners of each zone coordinated respective zone activities. The Mahotsav started on today will finish on 3rd October 2021.
