Mahanga Tehsildar defies transfer order; Govt mum

Odisha

Bhubaneswar, October 20: The Odisha Government has failed to implement its order of transferring Mahanga Tehsildar in Cuttack district even after the passage of more than one month, strengthening the speculation of political intervention.

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department in its notification on September 14, 2021 had notified transfer of Mahanga Tehsildar Madhusudan Nayak (OAS-JB) along with some other Tehsildars.

As per the order, Nayak was transferred as the Deputy Collector at the Jagatsinghpur Collectorate. He is neither leaving the chair giving the responsibility to the Additional Tehsildar nor being asked by the Revenue and Disaster Department to join the new place of posting.

While two-three transfer orders of Tehsildars have been issued by the Department after September 14 notification, no name was made for Mahanga raising eyebrows in the locality.

“He (Madhusudan Nayak) is not a proactive officer. Neither he is discharging his executive and magistrate powers perfectly nor reaching out to the people when needed during the natural calamities. He too does not have the control over the staff of the Tehsil,” said a woman, who had petitioned Nayak over liquor sale near her house.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nayak, who joined the Government services as a junior clerk in a Tehsil in Kendrapara district under rehabilitation scheme after the death of his father, has the instances of issuing order for demarcation to be carried out on public holiday like Sunday but always remain reluctant to visit areas or persons, who petitioned him, citing lack of time and prevailing COVID-19 situation.

“It is intriguing if the post of Tehsildar is more fascinating than that of Deputy Collector for which the Mahanga Tehsildar is unwilling to move. It is also an instance of model 5T rule in vogue in our State that no action has yet been taken against him who sits adamantly on his transfer order,” said an aggrieved person.
