Odisha Governor felicitates ‘1971 War’ heroes

Bhubaneswar, October 30: Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Saturday received the victory flame of Swarnim Vijay Barsh commemorating 1971 War victory and felicitated 154 heroes who took part in the war in a function held in the Raj Bhavan here.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor remembered the resounding victory of the Indian Army in the war which lead to the creation of new Nation Bangladesh and surrender of the soldiers of the Pakistan Army.

He acknowledged the major role played by Armed Forces personnel belonging to Odisha who took part in the war and said that the nation owes a big debate to them.

A total number of 154 War heroes who took part in 1971 War were honoured by the Governor with a Memento and Shawl.

Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Brig. Prasant Chouhan (Sena Medal), Commander-Chhatisgarh & Odisha Sub-area, Lt. Gen. S Mohan, SM,VSM, GOC, HQ, MB area and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Earlier in the day, the flame was taken to the homes of 1971 War veterans like MWO Loknath Sahoo, Maj. General B.K.Mohanty, Col. Ramesh Chandra Patra and Lt.Col. Shivaram Satpathy.
