Odisha: Narcotics substances worth Rs 4 crore seized between April-October 2021

Cuttack, November 6: The Excise Department has seized narcotics substances worth nearly Rs 4 crore between April and October this year in the State, said an official release.

According to a Excise Department statement, among the major detections, in October, the Balasore District Excise team had seized 1.5 Kgs brown sugar at Jaleswar in Balasore district and arrested one hard core criminal followed by the State Flying Squad Cuttack with seizure of 2.1 Kgs brown sugar at Bidyadharpur under Basta PS area of Balasore district with the arrest of two hard core criminals and the total cost of seized brown sugar would be Rs 3.6 crore.

Similarly, the Berhampur Excise District seized 1250 Kgs of Ganja costing about Rs 62.50 lakh, one Truck, one car and arrested four accused persons in September followed by the seizure of 840 Kgs of ganja worth of Rs 42 lakh by the Excise team in Padua PS area of Koraput district in September, it said.

The total arrest and seizure made by the Excise Department in the financial year (April to October) is more than the previous year related to NDPS cases, it added.

The anti-narcotics drive was being supervised by Excise Commissioner Ashish Kumar Singh Principal Secretary (Excise) Sushil Kumar Lohani.
