BMC encourages digital payment

Bhubaneswar, November 26: With a green signal to start the Unified Payment Interface Quick Response (UPI QR ) process to encourage digital payment in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday communicated authorisation to the agency namely “One97 Communication Ltd (Paytm).”

Especially small business units and merchants like tea stalls owners, street vendors, shopkeepers, etc. will be approached and educated about the transparent system.

There were different rounds of discussions with “Phone pay”, “Bharat” pay and “Paytm” representatives with chairmanship of BMC Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh. As observed by the committee “Paytm” is providing more facilities to citizens, so it was decided to authorise the agency to lunch a drive in the BMC area.

The team of “Paytm” will cover the whole city to promote the activity, said Srimanta Mishra, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of BMC.

Their activities include UPI QR on boarding of small merchants, tea stalls owners, street vendors, shopkeepers, etc. in complete 67 wards of Bhubaneswar City; UPI QR integration on MO Cycle App, BMC Kiosk, etc; Integration of Mobile App for BMC taxes; Integration of UPI QR & Mobile ticketing for CRUT Buses on pilot basis. Also, Implementation of UPI QR & Fastag in multi-level car parking; Branding& marketing of digital payment will be done by the agency. Time to time the agency will update BMC about the progress.

Representatives of “Paytm” said, “We are happy to promote digital payment system in the smart city Bhubaneswar where we can serve citizens, merchants and contribute Transparency component of 5T model approach of the State Government.”
