Bhubaneswar, December 6: The Department of Urology, AIIMS-BBSR conducted an Observership programme in Advanced 3-D Laparoscopic Urology on December 2 and 3.

The Department of Urology is routinely performing all the advanced Laparoscopic and other minimally invasive procedures in Uro- Oncology such as Radical Nephrectomy, Cystectomy and Prostatectomy and reconstructive procedures such as Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty, Ureteric reimplantation and Vesico-Vaginal Fistula repair.

It is imperative that such skills be imparted to our colleagues across the country so that patients get the benefits of reduced morbidity and early recuperation following minimally invasive procedures.

The programme was facilitated by Medtronic Inc. under their PACE program and the various surgeries were demonstrated by the Departmental faculty Dr. Prasant Nayak, Dr. Manoj Das and Dr. Swarnendu Mandal. The Department thanks the Anesthesia team of Dr. Bhaskar Rao and Dr. Nitasha Roy and nursing and technical staff of the Operation Theatre for their cooperation and support.

“It was a great opportunity to learn and impart nuances of Laparoscopic Urology to Consultants and Faculty from reputed Institutions from across the country. They were overwhelmed with the advanced surgeries performed here and offcourse with the facilities available,” said a release issued by the Department of Urology.

“The Department is also indebted to our current Director, Prof. Gitanjali Batmanabane and the AIIMS-Bhubaneswar administration for providing state of the art facilities and constant encouragement to the Department,” it said.

The Department plans to conduct such programs at regular intervals in the future, it added.
