BMC & SBI organise special e-waste drive in Bhubaneswar  


Bhubaneswar, January 29: A special demonstration pertaining to E-waste collection was organised on Saturday morning in Madhusudan Nagar area urging community members to come forward sharing their Electronics waste (E waste) and Domestic Hazardous Waste (DHW).

The programme was jointly organised by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and State Bank of India (SBI), Bhubaneswar Circle on the occasion of Swachhata Pakhawada (Swachhata Pakhya).

The demonstration group made their move in the area following the inauguration of the event by BMC Deputy Commissioner (Sanitation) Suvendu Kumar Sahoo.

While cities of India are participating in Swachh Survekshan 2022 different activities are being taken up to sensitize community members on the theme. Besides, different agencies like SBI Odisha are also organizing swachhata related activities to add value to city sanitation initiatives,” said Sahoo.

Every Saturday is our E waste and DHW collection day. Team BMC is regularly continuing the activity where we have received lot of cooperation from different communities of Bhubaneswar,” he added.

“We feel proud to take part in BMC’s swachhata initiative and it is an opportunity to serve people of the locality. In future times also we will be organizing similar kind of activities to sensitize citizens on swachhata,” said Vidya Krishnan CGM, SBI Bhuaneswar circle.

BMC’s safaigadis engaged in different wards did the awareness on Swachh Survekshan 2022 and Swachhata Pakhawada along with usual collection segregated waste , E waste and DHW. Recently BMC has sold six metric tons of E waste to the selected recycler certified by Sate Pollution Control Board. Presently BMC has twenty six numbers of Micro Composting Centers (MCCs) and six Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) that are contributing towards scientific waste processing. Awareness drive like home visit is a continuous process to mobilize communities for such swachhata drive.

Among others, Biswajit Mishra, Assistant General Manager and Seikh Ismail, Manager Public Relations of SBI, Bhubaneswar circle Odisha participated in the demonstration today. Swachha sathis, Social organisations like CORE and CFAR participated in the event.
