Deomali to be developed into tourist trove: Odisha Chief Secretary

Koraput, April 16: Deomali peak, the highest peak in Odisha and the tallest in the whole of the Eastern Ghats will be soon developed for eco-tourism, said Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra here on Saturday.

“Today, I visited Deomali hilltop. We had a detailed discussion on how eco-tourism can be developed on the Deomali hilltop taking into account the villages surrounding it. Site selection for it has also been done,” Mahapatra told media persons informed in Koraput.

Forest Department will very soon start work on it, Mahapatra said.

“We will build cottages. Villagers are already involved and they are charging some fees from tourist vehicles visiting the place. A gate has been constructed. I had discussions with the villagers for keeping the place and on how they can provide better service to the visiting tourists,” the Chief Secretary informed.

In the coming years Deomali will be the most beautiful location in Odisha, Mahapatra said.

“I feel hundreds of villagers from the surrounding village will get employment and earn in crores of rupees,” he added.
