Puri, April 28: Nearly a month after Puri police moved a competent authority under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to confiscate assets worth over Rs 1 crore of brown sugar smuggler Anirudh Jaisingh alias Anu, the latter on Wednesday night passed an order for forfeiture of ill-gotten properties.

This is the first time that Puri police has initiated such a process to seize ill-gotten assets of a drug dealer in the district. Jaisingh was arrested along with his four associates on January 7 with around 140 grams of brown sugar.

A team of police officials led by DCP (Traffic) Manobrata Satapathy conducted the financial investigation and seized Jaisingh’s property, including two JCB excavators, one car, one tractor, a hardware-cum-cement godown and gold and silver ornaments.

“In 1st such instance & achievement for Puri Police, Competent Authority at Kolkata has approved the freezing of ill-gotten properties (acquired using Drug Money) of Brown Sugar Mafia Anirudh Jaisingh,” tweeted Puri SP.
