CM Mohan Majhi, newly-elected MLAs take oath as maiden session of Odisha Assembly begins

Bhubaneswar, June 18: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and several newly elected MLAs took oath as member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Tuesday here. They were administered the oath by pro-tem Speaker Ranendra Pratap Swain.

The Assembly has been put under a three-tier security system for the three-day oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MLAs. All the newly elected MLAs will take oath between June 18 and 19, 2014. Later, the election for the Speaker will be held on June 20.

This is the first session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly after the formation of the new and first BJP Government in the State.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party in the recently held assembly elections in the State by winning 78 of the 147 seats. The saffron party also has the support of three Independent candcandidates.
