Bhubaneswar, August 12: Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) recruited directly to the Odisha Police Service (OPS) in 2016 in the Odisha Civil Service Examination conducted by the OPSC, are optimistic about getting justice in the new BJP Government.
In the last eight years, they have remained an unhappy lot of police officers with the previous BJD Government continued reportedly showing a step-motherly attitude towards them. They were neither given any promotion in the State police hierarchy.
“We have remained as a neglected lot even though were recruited through the OPSC. We have talent but are stranded at where we were eight years ago. We have not been given justice, while our juniors have been enjoying favours,” rued many DSPs, recruited through the OPSC interview eight years ago.
They, however, hoped they would get justice during the new BJP government.
“We are optimistic. The BJP government is working in a very positive way with the notion of Sabka Saath Sabka Viswal. We hope we will get justice soon,” said they.
According to them, police officers who worked under their juniors as Inspectors were promoted directly as DSPs in 2021 and subsequently promoted to the rank of Additional SPs in 2023. These juniors were given promotions even though no catch of rule was in execution and in violation of general administration and Meghachandran rules. Thus, the former government is perceived to have taken a step-motherly attitude towards DSPs appointed through DSPs.
Even though some cases relating to promotion have been pending at the High Court, the promotions given to the juniors look like nothing but violations. Though the HC completed hearings a year ago, it is yet to give its verdict.
DIG-level officers were posted as SPs in different districts due to the lack of IPS officers before this year’s general elections. All Odisha cadre IPS posts, which are to be filled through promotion, have been lying vacant. Officers of other cadres, appointed at the time of OPSC-recruited DSPs and OPSs, have received two promotions by now. However, the State government has shown a step-motherly attitude toward the OPSC-recruited DSPs.
This being the background, the OPSC-recruited DSPs have urged the new government to give due promotions to them and fill up the vacant Odisha cadre-IPS posts without delay.
