Justice Harish Tandon new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court

Bhubaneswar, February 6: The Supreme Court collegium on Thursday recommended the appointment of Calcutta High Court judge Justice Harish Tandon as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

The recommendation was made following the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19.

Justice Arindam Sinha is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

Justice Tandon was appointed as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2010 and has served there since.

He ranks 7th in the All-India Seniority of High Court Judges and is a senior puisne judge in his parent High Court.

Before his elevation, he practiced in civil matters at the Calcutta High Court.

“He has acquired extensive experience in dispensing justice. He is considered to be a competent judge and possesses a high level of integrity and conduct required of a person holding high judicial office,” the Collegium said in its statement published on the website of the top court.
