‘Prarambh’ – A New Beginning for Students at Maa Manikeshwari University

Odisha

Bhawanipatna: Maa Manikeshwari University recently hosted its first annual function, ‘Prarambh,’ a cultural and artistic celebration dedicated to students. Unlike previous years, when external cultural groups dominated the stage, this year’s event placed students at the center, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents in dance, music, and comedy.

‘Prarambh’ aimed to be more than just an annual event—it became a creative laboratory for students. The students actively participated in various performances, including classical and contemporary dance, vocal music, and comedic skits. This shift allowed them to recognize and express their artistic potential while managing the cultural stage themselves.

The grand event was conducted under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor (I/c) Dr. Nibedita Nath, who emphasized the joy of witnessing students’ happiness. Registrar Pitambar Bhoi welcomed the esteemed guests and set the tone for the event.

The Chief Guest, District Collector Sachin Pawar, encouraged students to engage in skill-based training programs to enhance their innate abilities. He highlighted the importance of vocational knowledge and global competencies in ensuring career success and national progress.

Keynote speaker Dr. Subhransu Sekhar Dash, Principal of the Government College of Engineering, Bhawanipatna, advised students on discipline and values as essential attributes. Another distinguished guest, Dr. Basanta Kumar Pradhan, Dean & Principal of Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital Bhawanipatna, inspired students to be dedicated, ambitious, and inquisitive in their academic pursuits.

Students excelling at state and national levels in various domains such as essay writing, debates, poetry, painting, music, dance, instrumental performances, quizzes, skits, and solo acts were honoured with certificates and trophies. Recognitions were also extended to those actively contributing to research, examinations, student welfare, sports, and volunteer programs such as the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Youth Red Cross.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Major (Dr.) Jayadeb Sahoo, HoD English & Deputy Registrar, Maa Manikeshwari University. The university staff and students enthusiastically participated in ‘Prarambh,’ making it a memorable and inspiring occasion.

With this new tradition, Maa Manikeshwari University has set a precedent for fostering student creativity, leadership, and holistic development, ensuring ‘Prarambh’ continues as a beacon of inspiration for years to come.
