(Bhadrak): The Dhamara Port has felicitated four traditional sea fishermen of
Bhadrak district on the occasion of 51st Maritime Week celebrations in the port
held between March 31 and April 5.

Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) of DPCL Santosh Kumar Mohapatra and Chief Operating
Officer (COO) Subrat Tripathy felicitated Laxman Mallick (80) and Ratikanta
Mallick (75), two traditional fishermen from Chudamani area who have been
engaged in fishing in the sea in Bay of Bengal for nearly 60 years and veteran
fishermen Debendra Das (65) and Susanta Patra (67) of Chandinipal area near
Dhamra at a function held within the port premises on April 5.

These
fishermen were the first generation of traditional fishermen in their
respective localities. The fishermen narrated their stories of excitement,
challenge and life risk while going for fishing into the deep sea for
livelihood.

A number of
competitions among the port employees and local school children were organized
and rallies were taken out by local youths to spread the message about
importance of maritime week celebrations among the community.

This apart,
a face and body painting competition was organized wherein some of the port
employees painted their face and body with different colours to spread a
message on environment protection.

A cricket
tournament too was organized to mark the occasion wherein 32 different cricket
teams representing various departments and organizations of the port
participated and the team of Rameshwar Technocon Private Limited, engaged in
the Dhamra Port railway maintenance became the tournament champion.
