Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiaya Bikash Parishad has urged the Election Commission to reschedule the polling days for all seven phases to maintain indiscrimination in fixing gap of days between date of scrutiny of nomination and poling date for all phases.
In a memorandum submitted to the ECI, the Parishad pointed out that there is no uniformity in gap of days between police dates of different phases.
While the phase one has 15 clear days from date of scrutiny of nominations and polling date, the phase II has 21 days, Phase III 17 days, Phase IV 18 days, Phase V 15 days, Phase VI 17 days and Phase VII has 18 days.
“The gaps are not lawful and violate natural law. If Phase II gets one more day than Phase I, candidates would not face any trouble in persuading voters. It is presumed that the Election Commission has prepared election programme with a lack of mind or at the behest of a political party,” pointed out the Parishad.
Parishad’s convenor Surendra Panigrahi demanded that the clear days are made inform for all phases or else it would move to the High Court for greater interest of natural justice.
Elections will be held in Odisha in four phases on April 13, 18, 23 and 29.
