Bhubaneswar: All educational institutions in Odisha will remain closed on Wednesday in view of the all-India strike called by Central trade unions.
“In view of the Bharat Bandh call, all educational institutions in the State will remain closed on January 8,” said a notification of the Higher Education Department.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the State and a special vigil is being maintained to maintain law and order during the strike.
Meanwhile, Odisha unit of the Congress announced its support to the proposed bandh called by the various trade unions in protest against the prevailing economic slowdown, rising unemployment, inflation, privatisation of public sector undertakings and codification of labour laws.
In September last year, ten central trade unions – INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC – along with various sectoral independent federations and associations had adopted a declaration to go on a nationwide 24-hour long strike on January 8, 2020. The 24-hour bandh will commence at 6 am on Wednesday.
