Bhubaneswar, September 24: Veteran Congress leader and former Minister Saikh Matlub Ali passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here this morning. He was 78.
He is survived by his wife and son.
My father was admitted to a private hospital after he was taken ill on September 14. He passed away this morning,” said Masud Ali, son of the deceased leader.
Born on December 16, 1942, Matlub Ali was elected to the Odisha Assembly four times (1974, 1980, 1985, and 1995) from Mahanga constituency as a Congress candidate. He served as a Minister from 1995 to 2000.
Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik condoled the death of the veteran leader.
