Odisha: After Amazon, Pinterest lands in trouble for selling ‘Abadha’ on-line

Odisha

Puri, December 8: Lord Jagannath’s Nirmalya (sacred dried rice) and Mahaprasad sale network seems to have spread far and wide as the name of another e-commerce site – Pinterest – found selling the revered ‘prasad’ has come to the fore now.

The development came a few days after a servitor of Shree Jagannath Temple lodged a police complaint against online shopping portal Amazon for selling the ‘Nirmalya Mahaprasad’ of Lord Jagannath on its portal.

According to information, an online seller, Pinterest, is allegedly selling Mahaprasad in different quantities at different prices. Servitors have expressed strong resentment over the online sale of Mahaprasad and demanded stringent action against the company.

Sources said some servitors are planning to file an FIR against the Pinterest.

As per the record of rights (RoR) of the 12th century shrine, only the ‘Suaras’ (temple cooks) are authorised to sell the ‘Nirmalya Mahaprasad’ at the Aruna Stambha of the shrine.

“The reports of online sale of Mahaprasad and Nirmalya have hurt us. The Government should take immediate steps to stop selling of Mahaprasad and Nirmalya on such modes,” demanded a devotee of Lord Jagannath.
