With 21, Odisha reports record COVID-19 deaths in a day; Total caseload rises to 5,24,207

Bhubaneswar, May 8: Odisha on Saturday registered a record 21 COVID-19 deaths and 11,807 new infections, informed the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

With the fresh casualties, the Coronavirus death toll in the State surged to 2,161 while the total caseload rose to 5,24,207.

Kalahandi witnessed maximum four deaths followed by Sundergarh, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Angul which saw two casualties each while Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Khordha, Nuapada and Puri districts registered one death case each.

The active cases in the State stood at 90,335 while 4,31,658 patients have been cured or recovered so far.

Of the fresh positive cases reported today, Sundargarh reported the highest 1,922 cases followed by Khurda at 1,510. Similarly, 1,052 cases were detected from Cuttack, 560 from Angul, 533 from Sambalpur, 437 from Balangir, 428 from Bargarh, 421 from Jharsuguda, 419 from Nabarangpur and 402 from Kalahandi, respectively.

Balasore reported 260 cases followed by Deogarh (115), Dhenkanal (177), Gajapati (105), Ganjam (341), Jagatsinghpur, (134), Jajpur (302), Kendrapada (145), Keonjhar (231), Koraput (122), Mayurbhanj (175), Nayagarh (204), Nuapada (286), Rayagada (138) and Sonepur (210), Kandhamal (92), Bhadrak (83) and Malkangiri (70).

The State has so far, tested a total 1,04,69,081 samples, including 50,864 on Friday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 5.01 per cent, now.
