Bhubaneswar, October 26: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed to set up child-friendly police stations in each of the 34 police districts in the State.
“The Chief Minister has directed for establishment 34 child-friendly police stations, realising the need for child friendly environment within police station for kids, who would be coming to police stations for legal reasons or seeking help,” said a CMO statement.
All these police stations will have special logos, plaques, libraries for children featuring a variety of books, magazines and newspapers, it said.
It will also have a special plaque with contact number of child welfare officer and other info, first aid kits, toys and other amenities, it added.
The police officers will educate and counsel the children about the legal provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
It must be noted Sundargarh SP Sagarika Nath earlier initiated child-friendly facilities at a few police stations in the district.
