Cuttack, November 5: Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra was on Friday sworn in as the Orissa High Court judge.
Chief Justice S Muralidhar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the judge, who was elevated from advocate, in a simple ceremony on the High Court premises.
All the judges of the High Court, senior advocates, members of High Court Bar Association, Home Secretary Sanjeev Chopra, DGP Abhyay, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioners of Police SK Priyadarsi and other senior officials were present during the oath taking ceremony.
Justice Mohapatra’s name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice NV Ramana in a resolution on September 29 along with the names of Justice Mruganka Sekhar Sahoo, Justice Radha Krishna Pattanaik and Justice Sashikanta Mishra.
Besides Justice Mohapatra, Centre had cleared all the three other names on October 13. On October 19 they had taken oath.
However, notification regarding the appointment of Mohapatra was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on November 3.
With the fresh appointment of Mohapatra, the number of judges in Orissa High Court reached 18 against the sanctioned strength of 27.
Mohapatra completed his 10th standard from Ravenshaw Collegiate School in 1984 and completed his graduation from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. Subsequently, he completed his LLB degree from Madhusudan Law College (University). He was registered as a lawyer in the State Bar Council in 1995.
