Cyclone Dana to cross north Odisha and WB coasts between Puri-Sagar Island on Oct 24: IMD

Bhubaneswar, October 21: Cyclone Dana will cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island on October 24, according to India Meteorological Centre.

“The Low Pressure Area over the East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea moved west-north-westwards and lay as Well marked low pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal at 1130 hours IST of today. It is very likely to move west-north-westwards and intensify into a depression by 22nd October morning and into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October, 2024 over east-central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is very likely to move north-westwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by 24th October morning,” said IMD bulletin.

“Continuing to move north-westwards, it is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during night of 24th and early morning 25th October, 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph,” it stated.

Meanwhile, a control room has been opened at the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office to deal with Cyclone Dana-related issues in the State. A close watch is being kept on the situation through the control room.

Senior IAS officers will be deputed to districts likely to be affected by the impending cyclone. Similarly, NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Services personnel will be moving to Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati districts this evening. These districts are expected to be affected by the impending cyclonic storm.

The State Government will provide necessary assistance once the reports from the Collectors are received by this evening.

In view of the impending cyclonic storm, the State Government has cancelled all sorts of leaves of its employees in the State.
