Bhubaneswar, December 6: As part of the ongoing redevelopment under the Amrit Stations Scheme, Cuttack Railway Station is undergoing a major transformation to become a modern transportation hub offering world-class amenities. With an investment of Rs 303 crore, this ambitious project aims to enhance passenger experience and improve connectivity across the region.
The East Side (National Highway side) Station Building, constructed at a cost of Rs 14.63 crore, will significantly improve passenger convenience and safety by providing easy and hassle-free access for travelers arriving from the National Highway side. This development is expected to streamline station operations and offer smoother passenger movement, fulfilling the long-standing demand for improved facilities and connectivity in the region.
Key Features of the East Side Station Building:
• Fully Air-conditioned Spaces: 21,270 sqft of air-conditioned space, offering passengers a comfortable and pleasant environment.
• Modern Amenities: The station building is equipped with modern facilities such as a food court (2,100 sqft), modern toilets (including Divyangjan accessibility), ticket counters, waiting areas, escalators, lifts, and more.
• Accessibility: The station features enhanced accessibility with Sugamya-compliant escalators and lifts, ensuring ease of movement for all passengers, including those with disabilities.
• Improved Facilities: A spacious circulating area, ample parking, and pickup/drop-off facilities make the station more accessible to travelers from Cuttack and surrounding districts.
• Other Features: The station will also host Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK), ATM kiosk, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) and One Station One Product (OSOP) trolleys, showcasing handicrafts made by women self-help groups supported by NABARD.
The new building is designed to address the needs of passengers from not just Cuttack, but also from areas like Paradeep, Jagatsingpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Badamba, Narasinghpur and Niali. With a focus on safety, convenience, and comfort, the building provides passengers with hassle-free access, reducing the time-consuming entry processes traditionally faced at the station.
Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, will inaugurate the East Side Station Building at Cuttack Railway Station on 7th December 2024 at 5:00 p.m. The event will be graced by distinguished leaders, including Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Loksabha, Cuttack) Shri Bhartruhari Mahatab.
