Cuttack, September 24: A tusker got stuck near Mundali bridge in Cuttack district due to strong water current in Mahanadi river.
According to reports, a herd of 17 elephants crossed the river near Mundali. All other elephants were able to cross the river except this one. The water level is very high near the spot where the elephant got stuck.
Locals spotted the pachyderm stuck in the river and informed the fire brigade personnel.
According to sources, two other elephants have been swept away in the river while trying to save the stranded animal.
Meanwhile, the other pachyderms in the herd have gone on a rampage in the nearby village after not finding missing animals. They have reportedly destroyed crops and some houses in the area.
Forest officials have reached the spot and started rescue operations.
