STF arrests two illegal arms racketeers in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Bhubaneswar, September 24: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Friday arrested two persons involved in manufacturing and supplying illegal arms and seized nine country-made firearms and one country-made revolver along with other incriminating materials from their possession in Dhenkanal district.

“Basing on intelligence input regarding illegal manufacturing/ possession/sale of illegal firearms by some criminals of Dhenkanal district, a team of officers of STF conducted raid on the public road near village Bhapur under Dhenkanal district and intercepted two criminals namely – Kalandi Nayak of Radhakrishnapur under Khuntuni PS in Cuttack and Shyam Sundar Sitha of Baliamba under Sadar PS in Dhenkanal today,” said a STF statement.

“During search heavy arms i.e. 9 country-made firearms and one country made revolver along with other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession,” it stated.

During preliminary investigation, it is ascertained that seized country-made firearms were manufactured by criminals of Dhenkanal district, who were involved in a number of cases related to illegal manufacturing of firearms in the district and other areas.

Since the drive against illegal arms and ammunition conducted in 2020, STF has alone seized 56 firearms and 91 rounds of live ammunition.
