Bhubaneswar: The Samajwadi Party State unit president Rabi Behera on Saturday urged
the State Government to provide a compensation of 1.5 lakh each to the family
members of the five deceased persons who were killed on Friday as the boat
carrying them capsized in Biluakhai river in Jagatsinghpur.

Also demanding a
compensation of Rs 50,000 to the injured persons, Behera in a letter to the
Chief Minister said, “The State Government had paid a compensation of Rs 1.5
lakh to the family members of the victims of Hirakud Reservoir boat tragedy.
But here though the accident is same the Government has provided just Rs 10,000
as compensation, besides Rs 2,000 for funeral rights of the deceased.”

This apart, the party
demanded regulation of boat ferrying, engagement of trained boatman and
