Day after arrest by Vigilance, DGP suspends Cuttack CRRI police station IIC Bijay Kumar Barik

Bhubaneswar, January 5: CRRI Police Station IIC Bijay Kumar Barik was suspended by Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Monday, a day after the Vigilance Directorate arrested him for taking Rs 40,000 bribe from a licenced liquor trader on Sunday.

During the suspension period, Barik will remain under the disciplinary control of the Commissioner of Police.

The State Police headquarters in an order signed by DGP Khurania said, “Whereas, a disciplinary proceeding is contemplated against Sri Bijaya Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge of CRRI, Police Station, UPD Cuttack for his involvement in Vigilance Cell P.S case No.01 dtd. 03.01.2026 U/s 7 P.C (Amendment) Act, 2018, and whereas, it is considered expedient in the interest of public service, I therefore, in exercise of power conferred vide Rule 840 of PMR-1940 place Sri Bijaya Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge of CRRI, Police Station, UPD Cuttack under suspension with immediate effect.”

He will draw the S.A. and D.A. as admissible under Rule – 90 of Orissa Service Code. (IE-01-2026), it said.

On Sunday, the anti-graft wing officials arrested the IIC Barik for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 40,000 from a licensed liquor trader at Raj Mahal Square in Bhubaneswar to allow his business to run smoothly.

During the raids at his official residence in Unit-1 in Bhubaneswar, Vigilance sleuths recovered over Rs 4.96 lakh cash, 150 gram gold ornaments and 10 expensive wrist watches.

Besides, Vigilance sleuths also found a triple-storey building in the name of Barik’s wife at Sishupalgarh and a newly-constructed double-storey building at his native village Derabish in Kendrapara district. The valuation of the property is still underway.

The 43-year-old officer had joined service as a Sub-Inspector in 2012 with a monthly salary of Rs 22,775 and served in Boudh district for several years before being promoted to Inspector in November 2021. He was posted as an SI at Nayapalli police station (March 2019 to November 2021), Additional IIC at Saheed Nagar police station (November 2021 to August 2022), IIC of Info Valley police station (September 2022 to February 2024), and IIC at Cuttack’s CRRI police station since February 2024.
