Odisha: Boyanika turns 70, targets Rs 280 crore turnover this fiscal

Bhubaneswar, May 5: The Boyanika, the State’s premier handloom cooperative organisation, celebrated its 70th Foundation Day on Tuesday and is targeting Rs 280 crore turnover in 2026-27 financial year.

“Odisha’s rich handloom is a living reflection of our culture, tradition, heritage and identity. It provides a livelihood to thousands of weavers & empowers the rural economy,” said Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Minister Pradip Bal Samanta.

Inaugurating the 70th Foundation Day celebrations of the Odisha State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd. (Boyanika) at the ‘Boyanika Exclusive ‘ branch in Boyan Bhawan, he further added that Boyanika has become a symbol of trust, reliance, pride, self-reliance, and excellence. Boyanika continues to stand as a distinguished ambassador of Odisha handwoven heritage.

Department Secretary Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar said that throughout its seven-decade journey, Boyanika has established itself as a deeply trusted institution. To mark this special occasion and to encourage wider public participation, Boyanika is offering a special additional rebate of 10% over and above the existing 20% rebate, enabling customers to avail a total benefit of 20% + 10% on handloom products.

“This initiative not only enhances customer engagement but also directly contributes to increased earnings for the weaver community,” said the Secretary.

“In the financial year 2025-26, Boyanika achieved a turnover of Rs 233.56 crore and has set an ambitious target of Rs 280 crore for 2026-27, driven by focused initiatives in retail expansion, digital integration, and innovative marketing strategies. With a legacy rooted in tradition and a vision aligned with the future, Boyanika continues to weave a story of pride, purpose, and progress,” she said.

Somesh Kumar Upadhyay, Director of Textiles & Handloom, Odisha, Prakash Chandra Meher, President, Boyanika, Dr. Nivedita Prusty, Managing Director, Boyanika and other senior officials of the department & Boyanika were present in the foundation day celebration of Boyanika.
