Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday said that both in sports and politics, one needs passion to succeed.
Patnaik was speaking at the Sportsstar Award giving ceremony in Mumbai.
“Well, you see, politics is not very different from Sports. We have to run, duck, jump, catch, sprint. Sometimes you don’t even know in which direction you are running. Sometimes you throw and sometimes you are thrown out,” said Patnaik.
Patnaik said, “Jokes apart, both in sports and politics, you need passion to succeed. In sports, passion to win a game will make you a winner.”
“But passion for the game will make you an icon. Similarly in Politics, passion for Power will make you win elections. Passion to serve will make you win people,” added Patnaik.
A competitive spirit is the hallmark of both disciplines. Without this spirit, great achievements are not possible, asserted Patnaik.
Odisha has bagged the ‘State of the Year Award’ for promoting sports. Chief Minister Patnaik received the award from World Champion Viswanathan Anand at a special function held at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. The Chief Minister dedicated the Award to people of Odisha.
He also urged all the States to adopt one or two games.
“If States start adopting one or two games, it will hugely benefit the sports ecosystem in the country. Only when States are involved, we can broaden the catchment for sports talent,” urged Patnaik.
