Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Sunday warned tough action against the indisciplined returnees violating quarantine norms amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
“The returnees, who are creating nuisance and escaping from quarantine centres, will be shifted to quarantine centres located in non-home districts. Their quarantine period will be extended and they will be arrested,” said Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy in a press briefing here.
Such violators will not be given Rs 2,000 incentive.
Tripathy further informed that buses carrying stranded workers from other States without valid pass will not be allowed to enter the State. Overcrowded buses will also not be allowed to enter the State border, added the Chief Secretary.
“Some buses ferrying migrants from other States are not following prescribed route norms. Stern action will be taken against such vehicles. Buses carrying people without passes will be seized and not be allowed to enter the State border. Overcrowded buses will also not be allowed to enter Odisha,” said Tripathy.
“In the last two months, we have been able to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Odisha. A lot of frontline workers, including health workers, police are working 24/7 across the State to keep the Coronavirus at bay. We don’t want to comprise it at any level,” said Tripathy.
Hundreds of Odias stranded in different parts of the State due to the lockdown are now returning to State through buses and trains.
